the gear
You’ve seen some of my photos. Now meet my gear.
This was the first camera I ever owned. I think it may’ve been a gift; but I’m not sure. I used it starting in the late 1990s, documenting two trips, plus a church Christmas party, and a bunch of other crap that need not be published on the internets (IMO). It went into retirement in 2001/02.
My first and only 35mm film camera to date. It is also the first SLR I ever owned. I received this camera as a Christmas present in 2002; and it is still a huge favourite of mine to use.
This was the first instant camera I ever used. I bought this at a local Wal-Mart sometime in the early 2000s. I last used it in 2006; then it went into forced retirement. It was a very fun camera to use. I just wish I was able to get more film for it before it was discontinued.
Polaroid OneStep (1000) with Q-Light

This originally belonged to my parents. They used this camera to document the first few years of my life. I started using it myself in 2007 and continued to use it into 2008. It will have a special place in my heart for a long time, as it was a sort of catalyst to get me into instant photography for good.
This was purchased on eBay in the summer of 2007. I like its wide format (very similar to Kodak’s instant prints from the 1970s, before that whole patent infringement thing). I like that it had a self-timer. I like the fact I could do double exposures. I hate that it will have to go into forced retirement at some point in the future. I liked the autofocus. There was the tripod mount, too. When the day comes, I’m going to miss using this camera. *nods*
My first packfilm camera, purchased on eBay in early 2008 (along with a case and its manual). Someone likened it and its rigid-body spawn, to the Holga. I may have to agree with that. (I consider it a good thing!) I’ll be able to use this for a while (thanks, Fujifilm!); but I wonder if I’ll ever get to try Polaroid’s peel-apart materials in this. I hope so!
Model 2 of “the grand poobah” of Polaroid cameras, snagged off the ‘Bay. Most of the Model 2’s were white; this is a rare black version. My second SLR camera. I was able to use it for all of three weeks before it died on me on May 27, 2008.
I got this off the ‘Bay as a replacement for my Model 2 after its death. It’s the first of the folding Sonar models. You can use it in Autofocus mode, or in Manual mode. (I use it in Manual mode, mainly because I got use to it with the Model 2.)
I’d purchased this from a friend, who’d outgrown the camera, back in 2003. It’s gotten tons of use since then. However, I’m beginning to wonder if I’ve outgrown it myself. Or maybe it’s because I still love film so freakin’ much that this isn’t of much use to me. Hrm. (Picture from Analog Photos, used under a Creative Commons License)
Also used: A Konica B&W disposable camera. My dad had given it to me to use back in 2001. I didn’t get very many good shots with it, unfortunately.
